Let\u2019s call them Andy and Bella. They\u2019re both blogging in the same niche for the same audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Andy doesn\u2019t have a strategy. He intends to publish a new post every Monday but often gets busy and doesn\u2019t publish anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He\u2019s often unsure what to write about, so he picks whatever topic is on his mind or in the news. He keeps meaning to get started with affiliate marketing but never gets around to writing the reviews he has in mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bella, by contrast, has a blog strategy. She publishes a new post every Monday without fail, sends a newsletter every Wednesday, and queues up a week\u2019s worth of social media updates every Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ryrob.com\/keyword-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener follow\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" title=\"keyword research\">keyword research<\/a> (and using the right <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ryrob.com\/keyword-tool\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener follow\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" title=\"free keyword tool\">free keyword tool<\/a>), she knows exactly what articles are likely to help her target audience and bring traffic to her blog. She has a \u201cRecommended Resource\u201d section in each newsletter, sharing an affiliate resource she loves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a year, which blogger is likely to succeed? Clearly, it\u2019s Bella \u2026 yet most bloggers behave more like Andy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, Andy\u2019s blog isn\u2019t necessarily going to fail. He might get lucky with a post and get a flood of traffic. He\u2019ll eventually get around to writing some affiliate reviews and bring in some money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But his blog is definitely more of a hobby than a business, and there\u2019s no real momentum toward Andy\u2019s goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re more like Andy than Bella, don\u2019t worry. <b>We\u2019re going to discuss exactly what you need to do to create your blog content strategy.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"blog-content-strategy\"><\/a>How to Create a Blogging Strategy in 6 Easy Steps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s get your strategy underway. These <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ryrob.com\/blogging-goals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener follow\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" title=\"blogging goals\">blogging goals<\/a> will inform the whole of your strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s impossible to figure out how to create a successful blog if you don\u2019t even know what \u201csuccessful\u201d means for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Do you want to build a reputation for yourself in your industry?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you want to bring in some money on the side?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you want to raise money for a charity or cause?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you want to earn a full-time living? Take a look at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ryrob.com\/how-much-bloggers-make\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener follow\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" title=\"how much bloggers can make\">how much bloggers can make<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ryrob.com\/how-long-it-takes-make-money-blogging\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener follow\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" title=\"how long it takes to make money blogging\">how long it takes to make money blogging<\/a>, if so.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you want to enjoy writing for fun simply?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All of those are valid goals. You can choose one or develop a different goal that resonates with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Once you\u2019ve determined your broad goal, start to think about specifics.<\/b> For instance, your goal is to earn a full-time living blogging. What does that look like for you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe you want to make $35,000\/year <i>(the median US salary) <\/i>working only during school hours, for instance. Or maybe you want to make at least $100,000\/year, but you\u2019re happy to work a 50-hour week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"background-color: #fdf2d0;\"><b>Task: <\/b>Write down your main goal for your blog, using target numbers or figures if necessary. You may also want to set a target date.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"pick-niche\"><\/a>Step 2: Pick Your Niche<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Once you\u2019re clear about your goal, it\u2019s time to pick your niche.<\/b> If you\u2019ve already got a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ryrob.com\/blog-niche\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener follow\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" title=\"blog niche\">blog niche<\/a>, consider whether your niche fully fits your goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your goal is to make money (particularly a full-time living), you want to opt for a niche that\u2019s easy to monetize. Check out my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ryrob.com\/list-of-niches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener follow\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" title=\"list of profitable niches to blog about\">list of profitable niches to blog about<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, it\u2019s important not only to pick a niche because you think it\u2019ll make money. Unless you\u2019re strongly motivated by money alone, you\u2019ll likely want to choose a niche you can enjoy writing about for years. If you\u2019re not sure, write a list of possible niches and rank them based on (a) what you enjoy most and (b) whether they\u2019d likely help you reach your goals.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"identify-target-market\"><\/a>Step 3: Identify Your Target Market<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Who is your blog aimed at? Sometimes, your niche will indicate your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ryrob.com\/how-to-find-target-audience\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener follow\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" title=\"target market (aka target audience)\">target market (aka target audience)<\/a>, but most niches have several possible audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s say your niche is \u201cfitness for beginners.\u201d Your target market is clearly \u201cbeginners\u201d\u2014but you\u2019ll want to go further than that. Ask yourself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Are you writing primarily for men or women?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What age are your readers?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What country do they live in?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What are their political views?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How much education do they have?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>All these factors will affect the topics you cover, the products\/services you recommend, the advice you give, and even the way you word things.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They\u2019ll also affect things beyond your content, like the color scheme, branding, and the social networks you use to promote your blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For instance, one fitness blog for beginners might be aimed at \u201cwomen in their 40s and 50s in Europe, left-leaning, college-educated or higher.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another might be aimed at \u201cmen in their 20s in America, right-wing, high school diploma only.\u201d These blogs will likely look very different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Note: <\/b>You can\u2014and will\u2014have readers who <i>don\u2019t<\/i> fit your target market. That\u2019s perfectly fine. What matters is that you <a href=\"https:\/\/dhandhokaro.com\/identifying-target-market-and-sizing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">have a core target market<\/a> in mind. Other people are welcome to come to your blog, too \u2026 but you\u2019re not explicitly tailoring your content to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"background-color: #fdf2d0;\"><b>Task:<\/b> Write down your target market, incorporating at least some of the above factors.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"conduct-keyword-research\"><\/a>Step 4: Conduct Keyword Research<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next step is to figure out what keywords related to your blog&#8217;s niche people in your target market are likely to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cKeywords\u201d aren\u2019t complicated. Start by using my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ryrob.com\/blog-title-generator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener follow\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" title=\"blog headline generator\">blog headline generator<\/a> to come up with a catchy headline &amp; get inspiration on an angle to take your article. From here, many bloggers use a simple spreadsheet for content calendar management. Others use a task management <a href=\"https:\/\/hive.com\/blog\/asana-alternatives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">system like Asana<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You could even use a sheet of paper. The key is to plan your posts in advance and know when you&#8217;ll be publishing them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your content calendar can include more than just blog posts. You might want to include email newsletters, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ryrob.com\/guest-blogging\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer follow\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" title=\"guest posts\">guest posts<\/a>, and any other content you\u2019d like to create on a regular basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You could even plan to create more in-depth free resources, perhaps once a month, or once a quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s also a great idea to include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ryrob.com\/how-to-promote-your-blog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener follow\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" title=\"content promotion\">content promotion<\/a> on your calendar, as this forms part of your blog marketing strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It could be as simple as planning a few social media posts to share your content, or a list of who to email about specific pieces of content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To make your content planning faster, you might want to choose a particular theme or type of post for different days or weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For instance, you might have a \u201cbeginners\u201d post every Monday and a \u201ctop tips\u201d post every Friday, or you could always have an \u201cexpert roundup\u201d post the last week of each month.
